dirtyovercoats: cakeandspankings: I also just realized (slow on the uptake, so sue me! xp) — Cas went to all that trouble to make those two sandwiches for the boys, so they wouldn’t be affected by Sucrocorp’s high-fructose corn syrup leviathan poisoning.  He harvested wheat (and then made the bread himself!), tomatoes, lettuce and slaughtered a pig fresh and made it into ham just so that he could make those for them.  D’awww.  ^.^ i feel like this is actually really important moment in the narrative of this episode for getting Dean and Castiel to the point they make it to by the end of it, to newly leasing their friendship and fighting partnership. because it’s moments like this that bring Dean to understand that it’s not that Cas doesn’t want to help—because he does, he obviously does, the sandwiches are only one piece of evidence of that—it’s that he doesn’t want to fight, because, as he admits, he feels like him entering into the fight would be the opposite of helping. “I destroyed everything once.” so when Dean yells at him “no on cares that you’re broken, Cas”, as much as it’s a calculated push to jar Cas into acquiescing, it’s also one portrayed as being done in error. he’s asking Cas to help, but he fails to factor in how Cas wants to help. but he learns his lesson, because the next time Dean approaches Cas, he asks him for help he knows Cas would be happy to do: take him to his car. and it’s then that Cas finally comes to a decision. because he detects a note of forgiveness, a note of acceptance from Dean for Cas to make his own choices, and that’s something Cas never really asked nor expected from him. never expetected because he still doesn’t believe himself deserving of it, but he’s grateful for it all the same, so he’ll give back in kind and say “then I’ll go with you”, because if Dean Winchester is to meet death, Castiel is going to be there to take him on first.
